Re: Engineering Studies Marathon

yep

it's a good idea to state g= 10 m/s^2 in the exam for these types of math questions

e.g. this one, is it the 4 circles?

Re: Engineering Studies Marathon

draw a horizontal line through the pulley (excluding the one little one which is used to pull (since only ropes supporting.)) and see how many times it cuts (excluding the the one you pull) .

Re: Engineering Studies Marathon

Just some helpful info if anyone cares:
Regarding the Personal and public transport section of the paper,
in 2012 they asked all questions relating to aircraft
in 2013 they asked all questions relating to bicycles
in 2014 they asked all questions relating to boats
So in 2015 it means they are most certainly going to ask about either trains/trams or cars

Astro's prediction. I will definitely read up on a bit about cars/trains/trams before I go into exam

302/152 = 4 = DE/DL
DL = DE/4 = 20/4
= 5mm

Re: Engineering Studies Marathon

how is "DE/4 = 20/4"--> DE=(20/4)x4= 5?

Re: Engineering Studies Marathon

$\bg_white \\ VR = \frac{D^2}{d^2} \\ VR = \frac{30^2}{15^2} \\\\ VR = 4\\\\$
$\bg_white \\ You also know VR=\frac{d_{E}}{d_{L}}\\ Hence \\\\ 4=\frac{20}{d_{L}} \\\\ d_{L} = \frac{20}{4}\\\\ d_{L} = 5$
$\bg_white LaTeX is really not my thing ;($
