heys everyone just wondering wheter i can still get a decent uai score after going terrible in my school tests.

most of my scores are in the 60's and my rankings are usually above average(not by much though)my question is if i was to actually study and achive scores of say 90+ in the hsc except for english cause i suck at it (say 70% for english), would i still be able to get a uai capable of getting me into uni anywhere (uai of 70)

if you just study study study from now to hsc then anything is possible
since your rankings you say are above average then i shouldnt see why that you shouldnt get a decent uai rank
do you know what you wanna do in uni?

i was looking at a bachelor of commerce or econnomics, or finance planning

but im worried cause i have to get a uai of 65 and im not sure wheter i can get it.

when you think about it, 65 isn't all that hard to get, and if you're saying about getting 90+ in your externals then i wouldnt see why you wouldnt get over 80

but a uai of 65, shouldnt be hard to get if you study.... just study hard and see what you end up with.

nope 90+ in my hsc exam, i hope i can get that and im reasonably confident i can

the reason why i stuffed up along with socialising way to much to go good, is because ive been in hospital for 1 month because i had an operation so i missed a total of about 2 months of school, even though i got extensions of 1 week it wasnt enough to revise my work.

im confident i can get 90+ due to the fact i was top 5 in all my subjects except english top 10 in year 11 so i feel that because i have the time to study now that i can get a very good mark in the hsc. exam.

mikeb, if it gives you any consolation, here follows my last school report marks:
Eng Adv - 45%, rank 114/129
Chem - 81%, rank 20/60
2U Maths - 55%, rank 57/84
Extn 1 Maths - 23/50, rank 54/65 (well, I'm giving it the flick after the trials r over)
Bio - 72%, rank 26/65
Jap Cont. - 79%, rank 13/23
Jap Extn - 38/50, rank 8/8 (shit!)

I attend a government school, and according to various sources, my school has top standards for Japanese, whilst the others are more or less above average.
For English, I've been so heart-broken over it since year 11. It's the one subject that not matter how much effort I pour in, I still get crap marks. I used to be an 'academic' - top 5 in bio, top 3 for Jap (including extn), top 20 for maths. I've been through - am still am - trying to figure out how I'm going to deal with my downfall.
So many things have happened this year for the worse. My grandma got diagnosed with phase 4 lung cancer; my parents are filing for divorce soon; I've been so depressed in the past six months that I actually attempted suicide.

Right now, I'm just going to focus on the positive aspects of my life...
So, yeah...what do you guys think? would I be able to get a UAI of 85+? I'm planning to do B Art/B Edu at University of Sydney. If possible, even the new B Art (psychology) course...

My sympathies to you, fallen_angel--that's a load of shit that no-one should have to go through, especially during their HSC year! You can apply for the EAS scheme, explaining (thoroughly) how all that stuff has affected your grades. It basically 'lowers' the cutoff for you on an agreed number of UAI points ( antyhing up to 5 UAI points), so that you can get into a course with a cutoff higher than your UAI within that range. Note that I emphasise 'anything' since most people would never get the maximum allocated range of 5 UAI points.

What government school do you go to? If it's Cheltenham (judging by your location and your gender), it's a fairly reputable school and getting a UAI of 85+ should be ok as long as you pull up your ranks in the trials and try your best in the externals.

yeh wow sorry fallen angel, my matters dont even compare to yours, it must be tough. circumstances like yours are the reason why i am not putting in a letter for the uai reduction thing because of my operation because compared to yours and other peoples tragic circumstances 2 months out of school doesnt compare and would make me look rather silly when i send that letter in.

yes, I do go to Chelto, though most people don't know that my school's reputation has been on an exponential decline ever since that hypocritical new principal took over.
Hopefully they can understand my gran's medical diagnosis cert (it's mostly in mandarin, and the diagnosis is in medical jargon)...as for the principal approving my EAS application, well, that's another story. She'll be too busy planning her next holiday or pay rise to even think about the welfare of her students.

hey fallen__angel. u sound a bt like me, i hope u get better soon. dont worry urself over ur marks to much, i find it actually makes me more sad about it all. u should really consider applying for EAS, u definately have a case. good luck!
