From information I’ve come across on a website OTEN offers the HSC Online not just for students living in NSW but anyone in Australia. I’m really interested in this option as for some reason the Victorian Government hasn’t made this available for students in Victoria. All students, school or mature age, can only complete the VCE by attending classes in person, which are compulsory or else you won’t be allowed to complete VCE if attendance falls below 80%, which is not something that I’m happy about as I am self taught and coming to TAFE for 15 hours a week will only hamper my studies.

I’ve tried to get in contact with OTEN via email and phone but they haven’t got back to me so I was just wondering if anyone can confirm if that’s correct. What are the fees for those on a concession? I'm assuming that fees are the same for all Australian citizens and no restrictions exist between states.

Furthermore I’m not very familiar with HSC system and confused with the terminology and want to know whether the equivalent of doing Specialist Mathematics, Mathematical Methods, Physics, Chemistry, and English is possible via HSC Online delivery? Can I student do just those 5 subjects or a 6 subjects needed. For example I’m fairly certain that all VCE students who get an ATAR of 99.95 all have done at least 6 subjects and that doing just 5 subjects rules out that possibility.

As well as whether the HSC can be done in 1 Year for mature age students. VCE only requires one year of studies, the Year 11 subjects are not compulsory for any subject for students, they’re just highly recommended, but from what I’ve read this might not be the case with HSC.

From the threads I’ve read about this topic Mathematics Extension 2, which is apparently not offered via HSC Online, is the equivalent of Specialist Maths but that some students choose not to do it because the way it is scaled isn’t that favourable unlike Specialists Maths.

I've frankly never heard of something deciding not to do Mathematics Extension 2, being the highest scaling subject in the HSC by a decent margin, due to unfavourable scaling.
In terms of subjects, there's no additional aggregate marks for extra subjects. Everyone has 10 units (~5 normal subjects) that go to their ATAR.
If you want to do Mathematics Extension 2, you can do it via TAFE or Sydney Distance Education High School (I think).

Thanks the response WeiWeiMan, apologies for the delay as I began to feel unwell soon after starting this thread.
I was searching this on google and that's how I found this forum, a poster commenting that Maths Extension 2 scaling wasn't generous enough given how much more difficult it is compared to other maths subjects.

I found it:

Yes, but because the final mark & ATAR are all important for competitive Uni entry, this acts as a disincentive for students to study maths extn 2. No wonder a past HSC maths chief examiner bemoans (in another forum) how the scaling system encourages able mathematicians to choose easier options than what they are capable of doing.
Perhaps I'm misunderstanding what the poster is trying to say.

From the info I've found Maths Extension 2 isn't offered via OTEN HSC Online delivery. As I said in my OP, I'm a Melburnian so if Specialists Maths isn't available in Melbourne TAFE's I doubt an HSC subject would, in fact I'm pretty sure that it isn't. Anyway I'll try your second suggestion and perhaps Sydney Distance Education is also open to non NSW residents.
