Are they synonymous or is there a difference? An e.g. is NaOH as it absorbs water from the air.

iirc
Hygroscopic-tends to absorb water from the air
Desiccant- a hygroscopic substance that induces dryness
Dehydrating agent- an agent that removes water

So a desiccant is a hygroscopic substance which is a dehydrating agent (if that makes sense)
