I documented my chemistry lesson today via camera phone. I like to call it:
"I love public schooling"
Today, being friday was prac day. We were given this box containing a fractional distillator kit: (I don't know whose finger that is - not mine)

The box was suspiciously crusty and mouldy, particularly its corners:

We then found a dead cockroach in another box containing other parts:

We removed the pieces of the kit and found the foam protection very mouldy - possibly containing diseases:

Once set up, the experiment looked like this:

After doing the experiment, I may have contracted hepatitis while cleaning up with this mouldy cloth:

Looks remarkably like the kits we get given. Box falling apart and all :s
Also the finding of cockroaches is not unexpected...
But, we've never cleaned up with a cloth. That's what the paper towel is for.

It was just... fractional distillation of water and ethanol.

There's no need to have a go at the public system just because you feel your school has below standard science equipment. Blame your school, not the whole public system.
Also, if you think it is such a problem, and feel so strongly about it, then do something about it.

Where was it ever shown that she was blaming the entire public system and felt strongly about it? Looks like a joke thread to me. A more creative and entertaining way of saying "My school is so pov.."

And geez Guernica, your labs look worse that ours! hehehe. We did that distillation a while ago. We used port.

For a more entertaining Chem lesson, fill pencilcases up with gas and light them..
