I wanna do B arts at USYD, but i heard ppl say that I can't major in chinese studies because i have chinese background? Is this true??

Although I don't study arts, I believe that u could study chinese studies otherwise that would be discriminatory.

yeah u can, but i think u have to take background chinese units of study, that's all, u can't study beginners

but if ur mando is fully crap like mine, then i think they still let u, but if its good and u sign up for beginners, they soon find out and force u into background..i'd assume so anyway

yes you are allowed to major in chinese studies, regardless if you are chinese. as "pigs_can_fly" said, you won't be able to study the beginner course unless you really are a beginner. you are also tested on your knowledge if you want to do the beginner course!!

There are 3 different streams of chinese at usyd
Beginners
Intermediate (as in you can speak a bit of it, but you can't really read or write any)
Native (can read, write, speak etc)

You have to see the department so they can sort you into a stream.
