Hey,

This is an example of a dc motor >>>>> http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=h6Ev64h49wg

Basically he has the coil and im gettin the magnets on monday.

Questions he has:

* What do i make the armature out of and where do i get the materials for it?

* What do i make the commutator out of and how do i build a commutator.

*Generally maybe if there are some good websites which explain how to build one and also mainly where to buy the parts.

Thank you

A small block of wood would do nicely, just wrap the coil around this. I made my motor using lego (lol)

A simple one can just be stick strips of al fol onto a wine cork, with 2 small gaps. What i did was buy a bit of copper pipe, cut it using an angle grinder and glued the halves onto a glue stick lid. This was hard and didnt work too well coz it wasnt pefectly citcular. Although the teachers did appparently get it started using an old school 20 V power packs (I only got it going once).

You can buy timber from a hardware store. Jaycar stores also sell megnets and wire for coils and wires and other sruff. (Theres 1 in Hornsby)

I too used lego, and that worked not too bad, althoguh wood is better. I tried aluminimum foil on a cork and thsi faield to work, so don't even try that.

I also bought all my stuff from Jaycar.
