I think I failed AMEB piano exam (1 Viewer)

Bahaha i've never met anyone other than me who does ABRSM lmao. I used to be good at theory but i've forgotten it all, so i'm cooked for aural

idk about ABRSM but AMEB theory has four-part harmony, so cooked

Ah that's interesting, for ABRSM grade 8 we have four short aural tests
1. Stuff on chords and cadences
2. You get 4 bars of sheet music, the examiner plays the treble clef part and you sing the bass
3. Modulations
4. The examiner plays an extract and you have to answer questions on style, period, features of the piece etc

Hmm my school has music 2 so maybe. And accel music (2?) which starts in year 10, but they also have accel agriculture and i think i can only choose one

you can only choose one is so mean both sound like fun (okay music 2 is annoying at times but also enjoyable so, every subject I think has its annoying parts)

And interesting interesting interesting for the aural, the bass sight singing is kinda random but none of it seems too out of left field

is the aural directly attached to the exam? like it’s part of the grade 8 syllabus? or is it a separate theory exam like grade 4 for example that you have to take at the same time

Yep it's part of the exam and worth 18 marks, in total the whole exam has 150 marks including pieces, sight-reading, aural and scales. The theory exam is a whole other level lol it has composition which im scared of

I recently took AMEB Grade 6 piano exam and I am almos t 100% sure I failed.

technical work - good
pieces:
list a - awful. the examiner even said 'i'm guessing your teacher chose this for you'
list b - also horrible
list c and d- okay, stuffed up in some parts
knowledge- honestly atrocious. i didn't know anything she asked, she didn't give me any of the questions i had prepared for and expected. She was trying to help me but I could just feel the disappointment
aural - well I always bad at this section when practising in lessons, but I swear it was a thousand times worse in the exam
sight reading - okayish

At the end of the exam, she said 'your result would be half a grade higher if your latter sections were better, if you know what I mean.' sorry, i don't know what you mean! I failed and I would've passed if they were better?

I just kind of wanted to share my experience, and hear other people's stories of their own exams.

My exam is tomorrow, the AMEB grade 5, I can tell you how I did after I do my exam tomorrow.

(violinist here) my logic is, do well enough in the practical component and you can scrape by general knowledge easy I did a diploma and did barely any study for general knowledge, could not answer half the questions they gave me but I think I waffled enough that they recognised I do know other stuff, just not the stuff they wanted (also feel like it's worth noting I got literally The pass mark for my theory exam hahaha)


never met anyone who did ABRSM! only AMEB and trinity

I do piano, violin AND flute! I am so trying to manage all these instruments along with my studies...I did cut some time off my violin and flute cuz i have my piano exam tomorrow, but I wonder if my flute and violin teacher will scold me?
