So what you need to discover is why plants require water? I've never studied senior science but I did study biology; I can describe the reasons why plants need water if that's what you're asking?

hhaa.. 10 points for senior science students!

im sure you could jsut make up some research..
don't plants need water to carry out the process of photosynthesisation???????
elaborate on how they need it to transform __ into ___ and blah blah.
i'm sur eyouknowhow a plant works.. u can just adapt ur knowledge to suit what you're trying toprove.

perhaps u could find some info from farmers etc.. who are experiencing droughts..

i know alot of them send letters to the govt explaining thier plight...

perhaps try emailing the farmers association/ some plantologist.. [haha.. i dont do Sscience.! haha..] and ask them..
:)

Here's plenty of reasons as to why plants require water, thus research:

Plants use water in several different ways, including:
1. Water is a solvent for biochemical reactions.
2. Water is required or produced by many biochemical reactions.
3. Water flow helps transport mineral nutrients through the plant.
4. Water filled cells help support the plant, therefore plants deprived of water
wilt.
5. About 95% of water absorbed by most plants is evaporated from the leaves
(termed transpiration) because the stomata must be open to let in carbon dioxide
needed for photosynthesis.

Liquid fertilizer has mineral nutrient salts in it, and salts lower the water
potential. Water moves from high water potential to lower (usually more
negative) water potential. Therefore, you may expect that wilted plants will
recover better when receiving plain water. However, plants also require mineral
nutrients that fertilizer contains. If the liquid fertilizer is concentrated
enough, it will certainly reduce the rate of recovery or prevent recovery. You
also have to be sure all your plants are wilted to the same extent, which is not that easy to do.

Research can include:

Internet
Textbooks (e.g. EXCEL HSC BIOLOGY)
Contact the local garden store
Videos from the Library
Audio tapes
I can obtain related PDF books if you want them?
