all my icons have completely lost their image, not just on the desktop but in my start menu and in my folders. I have only about 3 icon pictures showing: the basic exe picture of a white window[covers allmost everything]
the random one that has a white window but with tiny icons in it[usually for dlls and stuff]
and the wmp mp3 icon on my music and vids

this isnt that much of a hassle but it makes my shit look ugly. I am wondering if i fucked with a setting by accident or something.

if you've left your comp on for a week or so, xp will start to glitch up on you like that. Try just a basic restart before going on a software solution rampage.

ok heres what i did if you get the same problem[with help from you guys]

C:\Documents and Settings\Jarad\Local Settings[hidden folder]\Application Data[hidden folder]

then theres a db folder named Iconcache.db [or shellconcache i guess, but mine said iconcache]
delete that shit, and windows should make a new one next time you log in.

That only refreshed about half of my icons on desktop and start menu, but atleast now you can pick your icon pictures
so right click any icons still broke, properties/ change icon then hit ok. That should put it back as the default icon.

I dont even know how this glitch happens i was completely surprised but meh problem solved. :)

Good work ! It happens more than one Windows OS ... It's named ShellIconCache in Windows 98/Me but I guess it's called iconcache I assume in Windows XP
