I don't know what the acronym (I assume its one) FIRM ICE is...

But what I do normally when I'm analysing an unseen text, is I read the the text with a highlighter and just highlight every technique I see. If you know the most common ones (metaphor, intertextualy, allusion, alliteration etc.) you should be able to find them pretty quickly. Then just work out how they illustrate the change, for instance the technique of repetition might be used to show the importance and urgency of the change....

Hope that helps....

what are they, what do they mean>?
eh?
you serious or are you fukin with me?

intertexuality, basically a reference to another text. e.g. that simpsons episode that constantly refers to pulp fiction, or that simpsons halloween's episode that refers to the edgar allan poe story "the raven"

allusion: a reference to something, e.g. a biblical allusion would be a reference to the bible, like in crossing the red sea by skrzynecki... which compares the immigrants to the israelites crossing the red sea.... other types of allusions include, geographical, religious etc.

I can't think of some more known examples....so that explanation might be a bit crap....

im still real worried bout it but. I go to a crap school that only teach basic's.... Do u reckon its would be helpful if i memorised the process of change before the exam? or isint that neccessary? And do you need to know the difference of affects of change to the effects?

The acronym they tell us to use is SLIMS

Structure- Sentence structure, the meter etc
Language- the type of language used
Imagery- hmm wonder what that is:confused: ;)
Movement- Whatever
Sounds- Onomatopeia- sure I didn't spell that right:eek:

that may help you analyse the texts... probably not... then you realte it to change.... somehow :(

i just analyse each text in my head. you can usually tell from the question and the title or look of each text, what sorta techniques they want you to find and highlight them.

purpose
audience
language
- whole text (extended metaphors, repetition etc)
- paragraphs (extended metaphors, repetition etc)
- sentences (metaphors, similies etc)
- words (onomaetopea, alliteration, etc)
context

and why do markers love imagery so much?

On the last day of school my teacher decided to give us a handout on change.

firm ice is:
Forgrounding- the main subject that has been highlighted.
Imagery
Repetition- empasis
Metaphor/symbolism
Irony
Contrasts- (before and after)
Emotive language

Process of Change- dunno if it has any relevance
1 stimulus/ catalyst (what causes the change)
2 Revolutionary or radical idea
3 Resistance/ conflict (people who are against change)
4 Reluctant or gradual acceptance
5 Transformation (change)

ARE YOU SERIOUS??

Well you probably aren't, but just in case, imagery refers to things which are figurative, such as similes, metaphors, etc.
