Hey,

I'm just wondering - does anyone have any good ideas for related texts, for the English Advanced Area of Study of Identity? I'm sorta short on ideas, and the only ones I have so far are Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken and Melina Marchetta's Looking For Alibrandi (although, my teacher said the latter was too simple, and since we're supposed to be comparing these related texts to poems, she also said that the former would not be 'excellent' for comparing other poems to).

I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas, or any good places where there are ideas.

Thanks in advanced.

I think I answered this somewhere else but "Does My Head Look Big in This" by Randa Abdel-Fattah is a really good book to look at identity issues, however it is a little like looking for alibrandi so if your teacher doesnt want identity to simply stare you in the face it may not be the best choice

I think it was something to do with the fact that Looking For Alibrandi was in the HSC Standard course and she's like: "None of you guys are Standard students - you can do better". Then she started rattling on about how we couldn't do any of the texts we had done from Years 7-10, and we had done Sally Morgan's My Place in Year 9, JD Salinger's Catcher in the Rye in Year 10, as well as Rabbit Proof Fence in Year 8 (the Director's name escapes me now). So yeah, there went all the more obvious choices for Identity. :p

But Caitlin, thank you very much for your help - it is greatly appreciated.

heyy, i've heard that Looking for Alibrandi is a MAJOR cliche, and that it is strongly advised not to do in the HSC, as it used by everyone. It's because its the cop-out- its so easy to write about its link to journey and belonging. Its lost its originality. so i advise you not to do it. =]
