is it possible for 2 ppl to come first in a course say if, 2 ppl get 90% in the internal assessment for business studies.....if 2 ppl get first place in a course and they dont get identical marks in the hsc exam
then when the marks are moderated who gets what mark?

Yes, it certainly possible for more than one student to be ranked first, statewide, in a course.

Consider, in 2004:

The following courses had two students achieving first place statewide.

Chinese Beginners
Croatian Continuers
Indonesian Beginners
Information Processes & Technology
Modern Greek Beginners
Music 1
Visual Arts:

If a student is ranked first in a course and achieves the same mark in the HSC Examination, which is adjudged in the top performance band, as another student, both students will receive first place. In extension courses, the students' performances in the related course is taken into account (I don't know how, exactly); but, in other courses, this is my understanding.

Ah!

Yes, certainly. And, because marks are reported in integers, this frequently happens.

I don't know the precise moderating process, but if they differ by only two marks, the upper mark is used in the assessment mark.
