helOz ppl,
i was jst wondering if i come first in a course, does that mean i recieve a 100 HSC mark for that course? I am currently studying with an outside tutor for this language course, so 100% of my HSC mark will come from my HSC test itself...

I'm quite sure that first in the course does not automatically get 100.
I think that this uac table http://www.uac.edu.au/pubs/pdf/2004-Table-A3.pdf indicates this, but I'm not 100% on that (no pun intended!).
SO, the answer is no. If someone else knows better, then they will correct me.

if u get first place in school assessment, u get the first place mark for the HSC test as ur school assessment i think.

That is correct, but I don't think that is what he's asking. I can't really help you with the table because I'm not totally sure, but I can say quite confidently that the answer to your question is: NO.

Since you are studying with an outside tutor. I think you just get your HSC Exam mark as your Assessment Mark (and for your HSC mark, as that is an average of your Assessment and Exam marks).

Although, I'm not 100% sure there isn't a different system with outside tutors.

If you get 100 in both ext and int Beginners Arabic you don't get a mark of 100 contributing towards your UAI...negative scaling.

You will only receive an aligned examination mark of 100 if you obtain a raw mark of 100% in the exam.

Being ranked first in the state (or being the only student in the course) does not automatically grant you a mark of 100.

In most cases, yes - but the reported marks are rounded to the nearest integer, so if your actual mark was only 49.5 or even 49.9, you wouldn't have obtained a perfect raw mark.

It's impossible to know unless you top the course (and look up the scaling statistics) or you FOI the Board for your exact marks.

and the examiners also only mark in whole numbers

You are correct in stating that the raw examination marks and raw internal school assessment marks must be whole numbers - but these marks aren't the ones reported to students.

Fractional marks can be introduced into the reported marks in two ways:

1) The multi-linear transformation used to align raw marks to course standards.

2) The moderating procedure (non-linear quadratic transformation) used to determine the final moderated assessment marks.

Those fractional components are then hidden from students by rounding.
