Me and some mates have booked into the Baan Sukothai hotel on patong beach, its located right near the clubs on Bangla Rd. From what i've heard from travel agents alot of schoolies people who have decided to drop out of bali are heading to patong. many of the flights have filled up but we got in for the 28th.
From what i've heard Phuket is very similar to Bali. Main difference is that everyone over there is Buddhist rather than Muslim so they prefer to let everyone be rather than blow people up.
Another interesting note, because of Australia's current security level, people in Thailand are being adviced against travel to Australia due to "possible" terror attacks. I wonder how safe they would feel over here
