So, it is pretty much confirmed that I can move to EAL/D. However, given my rank in standard right now, and my prelim exam marks, I could also move up to advanced. I'm not quite sure what to do?

I remember mentioning the importance of proficiency in the English language in your previous thread. If you are confident in your abilities in the English language which, from your rank and Preliminary exam marks, appears to be the case, you may wish to consider taking English Advanced as it would likely be enriching in terms of your analytical and writing ability to a level beyond that of English Standard. However, it is also important to note that English Advanced, being a higher-level subject, will be more challenging than English Standard. Based on this, you should only consider taking English Advanced if you are confident that you can replicate your favourable year 11 English Standard performance in year 12 English Advanced.

On the other hand, for someone who is fluent in English, EAL/D is likely to be easier than both English Standard and English Advanced. The advantage here is that both EAL/D and English Advanced scale well, yet EAL/D can be an easier subject. Should you consider EAL/D, the only aspect that you will (or may) initially be unfamiliar with is the listening component, which is unique to EAL/D. Of course, you can definitely ensure favourable performance in this section through substantial practice and preparations.

Another potentially useful element to consider in making an informed decision is the performance of your school in EAL/D compared to English Advanced. In doing so, you can compare the number and/or percentage of band 6's achieved at your school in each subject.

I hope this helps! :D
