It doesn't shift up, it scales down. In 2002, it scaled a -0.7, 2001 and 2003 werearound the same. I don't know what the scaling for this year will be, but it will be something along those lines.

If you get 80% in your exams you shouldn't worry about scaling.

You also have to remember that 50% of your total marks are already calculated based on the assessment items you have done this year. If you have done well during the year you will probably do well in the exam. If you haven't done well during the year, then the exam is pretty much your last hope.

Your assessment marks are only used for rankings.
While I'm here, I might just state that my ranking in english is 41/66.
Hope you can read that :\

The English Head Teacher of my school (who I hate so much), reckons I can get band 5 minimum unless I stuff up. But I soooo wanna get band 6 since that makes roughly the top 1% of the whole English Advanced/Standard candidature in terms of scaled marks. All I need to do is to kill the modules and top the Area of Study like I did in the preliminary half yearlies in which I came close to the top marks to the Advanced people in my AOS half yearly.

band 5 makes you 1%, band 6 makes you like 0.01% :p
I'm beating most people in advanced AOS and my teacher said my trials mark was roughly a band 5 last year, i just need to work on my modules so I can get a higher band 5, doubt I will get band 6 though

Band 6 places you roughly in the top 1% of the whole English Advanced/Standard candidature in terms of SCALED MARKS. What you are describing is only comparitive within the English Standard people and there is no comparison to the English Advanced people. So in other words, if you can get a 90 in Standard then that equates to like 94 in Advanced.
