well its near the end of year 12 and i still haven't even really thought about what carrer i want to pursue

i know i want it to do with some kind of science ....but science could mean a broad range of carrers...i just don't know what i want to do right now

I need some help..

is taking a year off to figure it out an option for you?

its not like it'll screw up your uai or anything..... i don't think. its just the cutoffs that may change around.

besides this, i changed from really wanting to go to COFA from the beginning of year 12 to going to the Conservatorium of Music... (ie art to music) by the end of the year, so it may come to you

i know its really pressuring right now, but honestly, you have time....

you could also pick a degree thats particularly broad too.....

i can't really help you, because it's something that you need to decide on.

and i'm sure you've already asked yourself these Q's, but
- which areas are you most interested/passionate about?
- what can you see yourself doing in the future?
- what type of person are you [personality, strengths/weaknesses], and how will this help you do your job better?

but go science! even though it's not really that well funned, recognised and awarded in australia, according to my teacher. he says you get paid more if you go overseas to like america.

but don't worry, a lot of people don't know what they want to do. have a talk to your teacher, careers advisor, or friends and family, maybe they can help you. i guess you should go do some more research

but if you really have no idea, maybe it's a good idea to defer uni for a yr? no point in wasting time and money in something you're not particularly sure you'll like. doing something that you think that you'll grow to like it, it's not a very good idea.

that's a very valid point u've made there. had i the option of taking a year off i would have. imo its important to go into uni with a goal in mind whether it be academic or career wise etc. as its very important to be motivated. why else would you want to spent 3+ years studying? talk to people and pursue something different as it may be something you actually enjoy or good at.

lol do a generic degree like me

business administration (bit of everything businessey) and arts-psychology (psychology + lots of electives, mine last year were programming and human geography and education, however i have decided to major in psychology in my arts degree (duhh) and then specialise in HRM in my business admin degree

i have multiple interests ..... at least your better off , at least you know what you like and what your good at, i seem to be good but not great at anything except psychology....

My current goal is to

be a registered organisational psychologist by the time i hit 29

OR

be the BEST human resource consultant, the head honcho of the HRM department in my chosen place of work

anyway it's late and i dont even remember what the question was... hrrmm im just rambling on and on and just saying whatever comes to my head sorry guys its 3:20 in the morning

oh yeh dont worry about not knowing what you want to do... i entered uni thinking what the hell am i gunna do with my life....after exposing myself to quite a few of my interests (programming, human geography, marketing, etc) ..... i realised that the only thing i enjoyed was psychology.... in the end you shall eventually find what your looking for, it comes running to you blah blah (golly im tired)

you already know what you like so just go with what your interested in go to uni and do a science/laws or science/commerce or science/arts... instead of wasting a whole year of not studying..... use your first year to expose yourself to a number of various subjects and just see what you like... if you really like something go properly transfer into it ..... DO THE WORK though... asi nfull go hard not only coz if u plan to transfer u need the marks to be able to transfer...... but also because if you don't work and study for the subject you won't know the content and if u dont know the content u can't know whether your up for it or not... u can know the gist of something but then if u study it till u get it... u like it

in essence i say give something u dont like a chance ......

yeah equilibrium i tend to agree with clairegirl...it's best for you to choose a generic degree...

you mentioned that you were interested in sciences and good for you BSc is a nice generic degree which you don't have to major in until your later years. In fact, if you manage to pull off >97 UAI as you are hoping, then you can also have the option of B. Adv. Sci open which would make you more enticing to prospective employers...

Otherwise if you are completely lost then B. Liberal Studies combines elements of sciences and arts so it could give you a good idea of where you want to specialize in the future.

A generic degree like Arts, or Arts+Science (at Syd) is always a good way to go, that way you can always transfer, do post grad, or do practical training in the field.

That being said, a lot of people think that just because transfer options exist, they will be able to. Some unis are easier to transfer in than others; all with their own rules.

do you want to work in research? rehab? labs?
