Agrarian socialism my dear. You need to find out what it is before you bag aboriginals for complaining about minority status/disadvantage. Sorry Edit...you already know what it is you are arguing for it.

Who knew country folk could be so left wing!

...WTF? Where did I mention aboriginals...?

The middle man is there so as to disperse the tax dollars in organised policies so that they are best spread.

If you are arguing that the middle man should be cut out no money would ever end up in the bush. The middle man is what makes sure people out in the bush recieve some tax dollars under proportional income tax. But I'm sure you knew that anyways.

I also think you will find that the government justly gives the big mining operations as much assistence as they want. But usually they don't any government invovlement.

I knew that and I wasn't arguing that we should cut out the middle man - to do so would be moronic. Mr Shitless argues that tax dollars should be spent where they are collected, and to do so defeats the purpose of tax to begin with. Following his arguement, I suggested he go the whole 9 yards and cut out the middle man seeing as how he fails to see the primary objective of tax - being of cause, income redistrubtion.

In regards to minning communities, it was more to point out both primary industries and agriculture are the backbone of your export base and without them, Australia would struggle at the moment. Seeing as how these industries and their workers are based on remote and isolated locations - exaclty who Mr Shitless is attacking - saying they are a burden on the economy etc, I thought I'd point out they do more than he seems to think.

Oh...since when was Bankstown classed as 'Country'..? LOL

However according to some of these national gems, Agriculture should be abolished because it isn't sustainable, and should be replaced with manufacturing. =))

Really appreciated Generator.

I always enjoy Megaglonesis's writing (my Modern Greek is not up to speed today, but it's early in the morning) and welcome what he has to say about multicultural and immigration issues in Australia.

His analysis of Lebanese men is very troubling, especially that so many are not in the labour force. I suppose if lots of Australian-born men were not in work to the proportions the Lebanese are it would be a social crisis and we would be up in arms. Fortunately Australian-born men have the language and the skills to prevent this from happening. What is different with Lebanese-Australians that they can't access paid work and help/support their families?

And then their children might be expected to make an underclass. Mega says this is mostly not true, but this is only true if the modest gains made can be consolidated on. There are indeed modest gains within the second generation. This is the make or break generation. I don't know if Lebanese Australian kids should pay for the sins of their fathers, or how.

I like what he raises about Filipino women and Australian men. There are some cross-cultural marriages which are really about exploitation more than anything else. I think there is a sizable undercurrent of Asian fetish in this country which we do not wish to acknowledge.

I hope to hear all your opinions and I am happy if you challenge mine!

Funny that... I said the exact same thing... about 3 weeks ago in another thread...
I even went as far as to explain the high ammounts of jobless people... and further the ammount of single mothers... and why...

And furthermore i explained that the 3rd or 4th generation will have fully integrated.. as they have more openly embraced the "Australian" way of life.

Bare in mind that the majority of those statistics were indications of single mothers and their children. (who are currently on their way to succesful career paths);

And same with the Vietnamese statistics... within the next few generations... (based on their academic performance and such) thy will rise and benefit australia.
(Alot of vietnamese-australians living in Queensland are doing alot of the agricultural work too.)

Oh well...
