What do they mean when they say "equal ratios on transversals by parallel lines" and "equal intercepts on transversals"

Refer to 1999 Maths Adv HSC paper if you want Question 9b) and Question 10b)

Umm, isn't that a theorem?

Lengths of transversal trisected by a family of parallel lines are in the same ratio... or words to this effect.

The last time I did this was nearly a year and a half ago, so I may've gotten some of the wording wrong.

Yeah it's a theorem which i learnt last year and ignored.

You could always use similar triangles instead, which is what i do :)
