ok here is the scenario
(sorry if this is a repost)

2 schools (A and B)
2 students, 1 from each school

student from school A gets an internal assessment mark of 30% for maths and is ranked 1

student from school B gets an internal assessment mark of 90% for maths and is ranked 1

both students score 80% as a raw mark in the external exam and this is the top mark for their school

will they both end up with a moderated assessment mark of 80% an exam mark of 80% and an hsc mark of 80% for maths


then i presume the uai is scaled according to the university board and the mark that contributes to your uai could be way different, like 70% or even 95%.

someone ho knows please answer, don;t speculate, because this question is bothering me.

Yes both will score 80, because both are ranked first, and the highest HSC Exam mark is 80, so that will become their internal assessment mark. It's a fair system if you think about it, but because of chances wise, the person who obtained 30% might be the only one doing maths in his school, or the other kids are just not bothering, and he was lucky to scrape a first place, but for this person to achieve an external mark of 80, only god could help him, really whatever you are getting internal wise, for marks, it's a little predictable in some cases for some people, some may be able to do heaps of cramming to jump froma Band 2 to Band 6 it's possible but highly unlikely. If you achieve somewhere along the lines of 30% in your trials, then you might just even pass in the HSC.

That is correct.

If you are ranked 1st, you are always awarded the highest exam mark as your moderated assessment mark.

In this scenario you can see that being the only person in the class, it appears the school assessment become 'useless' - except as a measurement tool of your acedemic ability.

The HSC exam mark will decide your HSC mark. (In most cases)

but you still get 50% weighting from moderated assessment mark.
So you want to be ranked 1 in everything, or your exam mark might be given to some one else as their moderated assessment mark and you will get a lower moderated assessment mark than you really should have
