omg....that article is just... so wrong....really really weird... it's just really odd. like, it's his mum.... ok, really disturbing [the one posted by Mumma]

anyways, minai, i;m not sure myself, but it;s got something to do with their blood. i heard that their blood is too similar and that can lead to problems and defects. i think one of the problems is that if one of the parents has a recessive inherited disease gene. so the kid has a higher chance of inheriting the disease if it's parents are cousins. or was it that because they are cousins, they both are likely o have a repressed recessive gene which the child inherits from both of them, and so is likely to inherit the disease themself. well, i'm not sure, so if you really want to know, you could always contact docotrs or specialists online

it's not wrong as long as you don't feel it's wrong....

*cough cough*

i guess finding them attractive isn't that bad, considering what some other people get up to...have you read that article yet? i don't think many people would approve of it

Ok i'm going to point out a few things i've noticed, alot of u people have laughed on this forum at those who choose not to have sex before marriage, or believe kissing is wrong before marriage.

Is having sex with a relative not just another moral standard which society has built up? why is this any different?

I can only vaguely understand what exactly youre asking, but in the case of incest, its a standard western society has set for a good reason.

There have been many debates where people have laughed at others moral standards saying things like "what's wrong with taking ur bra off at the beach?", "what's wrong with having sex before marriage?","what's wrong with sleeping around?".

This is just another moral standard that has been set by western society, i challenge all the people who have formally stated question such as what i said former to tell me "what's wrong with having sex with relatives?".

dude seriously have you even read the fucking thread???

i just posted this on page 3:

--
"i was kind of wondering about that myself

this link explains it: http://www.healthscout.com/ency/416/219/main.html

basically, related people have more chance of carrying the same abnormal recessive genes, multiplying the chance of the baby developing a birth defect."
--

my mother works as a community health care nurse in lakemba (a very multicultural area of sydney). in this arera, there is a high occurance of mainly middle-eastern families who marry their first cousins. sometimes its a cultural thing, arranged by parents, or as a way of getting family members from overseas into australia.

the rate of genetic deseases, illnesses, birth defects and generally unfit babies is very high compared to what you would encounter in an anglo area where this practice is rare. and im not saying thats a racial thing, its cultural.

from a biological perspective, yes.

incest (out of lust) is almost always something which happens when young. it may seem like a good idea to some, at the time. but when youre 30 years old at a family barbeque, are you going to be able to face him/her?. ive heard about this kind of thing before, these kind of flings end up BAD in the long term.

so are alot of 'immoral' things apparently, like alot of studies have shown that people that have sex at a younger age are much more depressed, value themselves less.. yet people here shrugged that off.

I take Not-That-Bright's point, and can see where he's coming from....but i worry about that kind of logic being applied too liberally, for instance one could argue (which i am not, but i have known one of my teachers argue it) that having sex with children is only wrong because it's a moral standard placed upon society, in modern times, and that a long time ago having sex with children was acceptable...

i think there's a point where a moral standard is a standard for a reason, and not "imposed" on a society.

not having a go at u btw, just adding my 2 cents

Apart from the severe physical repurcussions, it is also seen as a breach of trust if one of the people in the relationship is much older, hence it is illegal to marry an uncle, but no illegal to marry a cousin.

I had the hots for my second cousin...but it all got too weird. We got close and before anything happened, I had to stop it...it was too weird. I know we're not related by blood, but we're still family...so it was VERY, VERY weird.
