That Bang Bang fellow won the election through promises to centralise Indonesia's government and to put an end to governmetn malpractise. Plus, he doesn't look like the sort of guy you want to mess with.

Blackfriday, although your orange plantation was burnt down years ago, you cannot assume that just because there's a disaster in Indonesia that the majority of relief funds will be stolen by corrupt officials. A good change in government has occured since the loss of your orange plantation, you cannot assume Indonesia is still in the same state as it was at the time of the plantation burning.

i feel like uv got a lot to say about indonesian beurocracy!
-------------------------------------

indonesia maybe corrupt, but the funds independant NGOs give will go to the survivors! :uhhuh:

as for our gov's funding, it wont go to sending their kids abroad -what the? never heard of it before - sorry!

most of the relief effort offered by governments have conditions tied to them - like 350 mil in aid or interest free loans, or long term rebuilding projects,

can indonesian officials get hold of the money? yes! but not all of it, thats all i can say, coz i alwayz try to use facts in my arguments, not hearsay

you know why i dont trust indonesia's government and their agreement with australia? first hand experience, they compulsorily acquired my grandpa's plantation, and when he wouldnt sell it to the government for some horrendously low price, they came and burnt down the whole thing. how can i trust such people, and how can you trust such people?
Frankly, Blackfriday, I sympathise with your former experiences and yes I agree that corruption in the Indonesian government (or any other government for that matter) does exist and is at its highest. I can precisely see where you are coming from because I have had such experiences myself.

However, it does NOT mean that the ENTIRE goverment is corrupt and that MOST of the donation will cumulate the overseas assets of these officials. Its just plain generalisation. I know Im repeating my earlier post here, but really where there are BAD people, there are also GOOD people. How do you know that all ( or even MOST) of these officials are corrupt? Have you personally checked their bank accounts? Have you caught them in the act red-handed (besides that one incident)? No. We don't know what goes on behind closed doors. But I've just watched a current affairs program on Channel News Asia. And they showed how the aid is reaching the needy.

So the aid IS reaching them (thats if you trust their local media).

is anyone else offended by indonesia's 3 month "deadline"??

news article

am i missing some type of info here? i mean, here we are sending our soldiers wasting fuckloads of money trying to help these mofos, and all they say is "you got 3 months, the sooner u leave, the better" ???? and the fact that they call it a "warning" or "deadline" doesn't make things any better either.

do they think we want to stay there forever or something?

please enlighten me.
You know, it'll even better if no country offered them aid at all.
This by way (after Goerge W. Bush), the dumbest thing I've ever hear.
The Indonesians would probably be begging the Australian forces to not go, or they would otherwise die of hungry, as I'll doubt their government would provide much commodities, more like the money would be spent on how to kill each other.

unfortunately that shit happens all the time in indonesia, it happened to my uncle's orange plantation a few years too.

did i ever say NONE of the money will go to help victims of the tsunami? of course a little bit will, just to keep jakarta happy.

frankly, :vcross: i think u should be ashamed of urself for putting ur own interests ahead of the interests of your fellow indonesians who actually lost something meaningful.

i dont know what the chinese indonesians have suffered (if at all) under recent reigemes but when the disaster struck, the whole world responded- and u should too. just because uv "escaped" ur former homeland, it doesnt mean u should tell everyone to turn their backs on them. ur an expat for cryin out loud, ur supposed to be doin something about it and not whingin about how chinese indonesians are suffering, when others have suffered way more than ur relatives back home

just think about that before u reply ok? ;)

I think they want the Aus. army out because the Indonesians have been fighting the rebels in Aceh for years, and with our army there they can't, they want to continue their civil war

Also, to BlackFriday, World Vision is only giving 30% of their funds raised immediately, and witholding the rest until they see how the governments use it and where it needs to go. Besides which, i dont think that in such a situation as this the government could get away with taking the funds, as they are mostly being given in resources, not bundles of money

the one that said i put my own personal agenda in front of the interests of other indonesians, now thats just being full of shit. i didnt even say that we should stop giving money. we should be giving money everyday of year to indonesia because nearly everyone there are poor mofos with only one day's rice left in the bag. world vision are doing exactly the right thing, because we must know where the money is going. if the money is really helping, give all you can because aceh is a car park at the moment and its just plain horrible. local media in indo is censored heavily OBVIOUSLY and the change of government doesnt mean an end to corruption either. just a bit less corruption hopefully, but sby is a military man and the only way indonesia can be controlled at the moment is by tanks rolling up and down streets but the military are such corrupt mofos that they just protect the criminals and let em rape and pillage where they wish. go figure.
