Has a question regarding the advantages/disadvantages of the AC induction motor ever been asked in a physics paper (whether it's HSC, CSSA etc)?

No there hasn't been and while I wouldn't be surprised if there is a question that compares them with DC motors. I wouldn't expect them to have more than that as they deleted the following in 2002:

• explain the advantages of induction motors

well even it was it isnt that hard to answer is it?

Like the adv/disadv are really quick to memorise:

ie.

ADv
-Cheap
-Simple design
- Efficient as electrical energy is nto passed to the rotor.

Disadv
- Low starting torque
- As load on motor increases current decreases

If it ever comes in an exam just churn those out, youll get the marks..

actually, wouldn't the current increase as the load on the motor increases? (as there is a higher slip speed, hence a greater rate of change in flux, hence a greater current induced - faradays law)
