Hi, could someone please give me information regarding the following subjects for Year 11/12? I would like information such as - amount of content, scaling, difficulty, etc. It would also be good to know how many units each subject is worth because I'm a bit unsure!

Advanced English
English Ext 1
English Ext 2
Studies of Religion
Ancient History
Modern History
Society & Culture
Business Studies

Thanks very much in advance!

tbh, just pick the subjects you like

adv is very content intensive and if you're not going to put the effort in, don't expect great results.
ext 1 english can be pretty intense for a 1 unit subject at times (especially leading up to assessments) but i found that i barely do anything for it

i've heard modern is very content intensive, ancient is very fussy and society is like common sense
so idk
depends

business studies is like helloooo content. be prepared to read through the textbook and remember lots of things. from what I've heard it scales pretty badly but seriously, don't let that bother you. I mean i'd honestly take a subject with shit scaling if I'm interested in it rather than one that I have no interest in at all. The subject is not difficult and is extremely straightforward. It's worth two units and so are all the others except for extensions which are worth 1 each

Personally I find that Society and Culture is a very easy subject to do. There is not much content. You really just need to know the main concepts.
You can write in personal language and you can also include primary research from your experiences in your essays or pips.
The scaling is not the greatest but if you do well and enjoy it you will get a great mark.

In year 12 I believe you only have to do one assessment task which is a PIP. You basically choose a topic that interests you and research it and write it throughout your HSC year. It should be about 5000-6000 words I think.

However I am dropping this subject because I have no interest in it and I don't enjoy writing.

Be prepared to write a lot of essays, with all those subject choices. A lot of memorising also...

I think it's 13 units with SOR 1...

I can only really answer for Advanced English and modern history, but English is pretty much a standard subject– you don't have to spend too much time but just get through the material and form your own insights (and write fast, lol) and express them articulately and argue all your points with techniques and stuff. Scaling wise its obviously much better than standard, and just slightly lower than extension 1 (in fact, many people say how the workload for 3u English makes the scaling pretty irrelevant haha).

Modern history, I dropped in year 11 and for good reason too LOL. History itself is really interesting and personally I'm really passionate about reading up Wikipedia articles on random historical stuff, but you don't usually get to choose your electives, so if you have a 'boring' elective or poor teacher who prefers to give you a heap of readings and not actually any insights/discussion, its really dry. It scales pretty well, the second highest scaling humanity after eco, but the content is actually crazy. You also can't usually just get away with memorising essays, you have to fully know everything and yeah content is massive. I'd suggest finding out what electives your school does for prelim and hsc, and if they appeal to you, it may well be worth it! :)

Regarding scaling, I'd say do the subjects that scale 'well' by all means but never sacrifice 'scaling' for interest. By year 12, your interest (and hence your effort) will only remain if you enjoy what you do. So like don't do physics for the scaling even though you're really good at extension English and passionate about it too!

Standard aligns worse then Advanced English
It has similar scaling.

Aligning= proportion of the state who get band 6s,5s etc

Business Studies; put in the work/HSC practice question you'll be rewarded.

Modern apparently scales quite a bit better then ancient. ( Not sure how valid)
