Besides having the lid falling on your fingers, has anyone else experienced any injuries whilst playing on the piano for too much.

I spent 6 hours today on a piece, and now I can't even hold a pen :(
advice?

you can get some RSI thing happening if you practise too much. I think its RSI. this girl in Music 1 practised so much before the hsc exams she couldnt on the day and ended up getting an estimate.

I also know someone who broke one of her fingers to get an estimate, which was an average of her marks (which was band 6). Although that's not really piano-inflicted...more like related.

I did get my fingers weirdly bent (it felt like it got tangled with this fast lyrical piece) once, but that went away as soon as it came but other than that no. I just know stories :)

Piano-related RSI is a bitch. People think you get it for a completely different reason.

I don't think you actually feel "pain" or get "hurt" after playing for too long
it's just that your fingers would be numb
but still, powerful

and people.....
if you learned piano for over 10 year since childhood, don't give up when you grow up ........ never stop playing.

The way you hold your hands while playing may make a difference. As a rule I never play for more then an hour without a break. Also consider the muscles ur using ... are you on msn a lot ? lol I find my hands always hurt cause typing is like similar to piano.

even though this is an old thread, the more scales you do the less likely your fingers will get sore.

1hr of scales p/day will increase flexibility in your fingers as well as aid your endurance. and besides, it helps with technicality

Piano-related injury is FAR more likely to be in the wrist than in the fingers.
