just a question wat does strips mean? is it the same as subintervals and trapezia?

It depends on the context. If you are referring to the trapezoidal rule the 'strip' refers to the trapezium shape made to approximate the area. In general, it refers to the shape of each partition of the full area.

if the question says use trapezoidal rule with 5 strips, then you need (5+1) function values

A strip means one trapezium.

5 strips means, you have divided the interval into 5 trapeziums, etc, meaning there will be 6 y-values.
