For English ext1, three people equaled first lol
Myself, and 2 others.. here's how the assessment marks were:

Assessment 1: (presentation)

Me: 8/10
Person 1: 8/10
Person 2: 10/10

-

Assessment 2: (essay)

Me: 19/20
Person 1: 20/20
Person 2: 18/20

-

Assessment 3: (creative writing)

Me: 20/20
Person 1: 19/20
Person 2: 19/20

= Giving all three of us a total of 47/50

For the creative writing, once my teacher realized how the marks shaped up, he got the opinions of 2 head teachers, both of which agreed that the marks were fair

..How's this going to be sorted out for the HSC?

PS. My Ext1 teacher is a HSC marker.

I wonder what will happen to the person ranked 4th who got 45ish.. which is comparatively high also

Are all the assessments weighted the same?

Would have been funnier if the 3 people doing Extension and coming first in your class were the only people doing Extension

1st = last

Just put the weighting in as a whole number, eg 20% would be 20.0, and then the mark as a decimal, so 18/20 would be 18/20 x 100 = 90, but put it in as 0.9

assessments 2 and 3 were both worth 20% and marked out of 20

I wouldn't worry terribly much. My girlfriend was in a similar position in her Ext 2 where she was tied 1st with 2 other students (freakishly enough they all came first with 100% in their internals). In the externals however, one of the three received 42, and the other two 47 and 50 (this is Extension 2 English for you). What happened was all 3 students received 50/50 for their assessment mark.

Just focus on getting the highest external mark you can because it's in your best interests anyhow :)

depends on the weighting of the exam...
but. regardless, teachers cannot submit 3 people in the same rank. they will have to differentiate between you all somehow. they can only give BOS one student per rank

I thought the board of studies did not recieve ranks, I am pretty sure the school nominates a mark for you not an official rank. they obviously would know the ranks from looking at the marks but I am fairly sure it is your marks they send not to bos not ranks

Marks and BOS ranks accordingly - you'll get to see this though to rectify any weird occurrence i.e. you were third and BOS said you were 5th etc etc
