Though it may be simply coincidental or altogether incorrect, I thought I'd mention this:

My school assessment policy states the proportion of each of our exams that should address Component A (bookwork) and Component B (logic and reasoning). This is as follows:

2U: 80% A and 20% B
MX1: 70% A and 30% B
MX2: 60% A and 40% B

Suppose you take the total marks available in each HSC exam (120, 84 and 120 respectively) and calculate the proportion of each exam that should theoretically address the Component A requirement:

2U: 80% * 120 = 96/120
MX1: 70% * 84 = 59/84
MX2: 60% * 120 = 72/120

For 2U and MX1, I'm pretty sure that the Band 6 cut-off has been in the vicinity of the above figures from the data that other BoSers have published. Whether or not that gives a mild indication of where the MX2 cut-off may stand I'm not sure, particularly given the fact that cut-offs change each year. Nevetheless, I thought I'd raise the idea anyway.

So,
Bookwork = Possible/Near the vicinity of a Band 6?
Its an interesting idea.

Its like what my teacher says - up to a certain mark, the exam is going with you, in your favour, helping you rake in the easy questions. Here, all you have to do, is be careful.
But, after that point, you have to fight for each one...

I guess he was talking about these component things...:)

Well, from the figures it appears as though you would get a Band 6 as long as you fulfil the Component A requirement + a fraction of the Component B requirement, if anything. However, in some years the band cut-offs for 2U and MX1 have been lower than those stated above. There's no way to tell whether this is an ongoing pattern, though I imagine that the HSC examiners would attempt to address both Components A and B in the above proportions...
