WHO ARE WE?
We are IB Tutoring Sydney - a tutoring college specialising in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. The college has 4 tutors, all of whom have done the IB. One scored 45 (UAI & ATAR = 99.95) putting him as equal first in the world. We all graduated in from Trinity Grammar School in 2008, with scores above 40 and have had a year of IB tutoring experience in 2009 (in a private context), giving us professionalism and a greater understanding of the IB courses we tutor. This greater understanding has come from the fact that it is one thing to learn a subject, yet a completely different thing to be able to teach it.
It has come to our attention that there is no IB tutoring college per se. While individual tutors for the IB exist, there is no actual place where students can learn in a small class format. This is fast becoming an issue, as more and more students undertake this far superior program. We are thus here to help.
The tutors study a variety of degrees at the University of Sydney: from Combined Medicine (BMedSc/MBBS) to engineering, to commerce and International and Global Studies, so we are of a variety of academic backgrounds than enable us to deliver excellent understanding and teaching of the IB to our students.

WHAT SUBJECTS?
We offer the following, at all levels:

  • English A1
  • German B
  • French B
  • History (HL option is Europe)
  • Economics
  • Psychology
  • Physics
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Maths (HL, SL, Studies)
These subjects are the most common IB subjects offered in Sydney IB schools, so there is something for everyone.
The tutors for each subject scored a 7 (maximum grade) in that subject, and study it at University.

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • High quality tutoring from experienced tutors
  • Worksheets and quizzes (depending on the subject), which are individually marked with feedback
  • Online help (email, msn, facebook)
  • 90 minutes tutoring per week in the subjects of your choice
  • IB specific tutoring (near impossible to come by)
  • Competitive pricing for IB tutoring
  • Classes of up to 8 students enabling maximum teaching and individualisation of tutoring
  • Opportunity for 1-on-1 tutoring (by appointment, different rate applies)
  • Extensive, POINT-BY-POINT coverage of IB material, as well as Internal Assessment help (many schools lack the time to cover these matters in depth due to time constraints. We have no constraints)

THE DETAILS:
Our classes run for 90 minutes each.
The rate is $40 per hour per person (so it is $60 per 90 minute class).
Our location will be given to those interested by email.
The classes will commence sometime in late February/ early March 2010, and run on Saturdays.

IB CRAM SESSIONS
For those that may not need IB tutoring on a weekly basis, we offer intensive holiday sessions that cover the most important course material over a 5 hour period, looking at difficult points of the syllabi and exam/calculation strategies. Again, email us for more information

Again, we stress that this tutoring is mainly for IB students (in Years 11 and 12). Interested HSC students may contact us, but we can't promise anything.

Thanks!

The IB is an international equivalent to the HSC. A lot of schools in NSW offer it (especially international schools/private schools). It's a LOT more in depth than the HSC and requires students to be all-rounders because you have to do two languages (mother tongue + foreign language), science, maths, humanities, arts (or another science/humanity). Pretty much every subject you do sets you up nicely for university. I did chemistry in the IB and didn't learn anything new in first year chemistry at uni.
As for the company thing: we are a group of tutors who have decided to pool our experience/resources together to work as a company (sort of). It's more of a tutoring agency - people need tutoring in a certain subject and we give them the best tutor we have for that subject.
