I've just finished the IB in SA and was wondering if my ter/uai is calculated from my home state and then this is used interstate (one single ter/uai) or if my ter/uai is calculated from my score individually in each state (ending with several different ter/uai). Because if its the later then it might mean i migh miss out on a med/dent spot at several unis.

cheers,
ben

OK. Another question, i've heard you pretty much need 99.65+ to get into med at unimelb (despite it technically being only 96 cutoff). Is it also this hard to get into dent at unimelb?

no *apparently*.. its slightly lower

Ure IB wont benefit u much as a 42 is 99.95 in SA but only 99.5ish for Vic and NSW..
im not sure why.. when the UAI=TER=ENTER etc..

a 42+ is a realistic chance at melb med from prev yrs. assuming ENTER stream..

Isnt that the COMBINED stream? To qualify ENTER stream you need 99.95 or 99.90 so either a 45 or a 44.

They're not all equivalent, just approximately so.

This becomes obvious when you look at Tasmania - their 90.00 or whatever is a hell of a lot more hardcore than our 90.00 - this being because they have a whole lot less people and so the ranks are more widely distributed.

I'm leaning more towards dentistry at the moment. Will a 39 IB score (99.15 vic ter), 189 raw umat (268 percentile) be a relatively good chance?

prolly not if u were in 03 and 04... but its dependent on the level of demand... hopefulyl not many ppl want it this year.

lexi: yes but its assumed that they are the same... its flawed anyways.. as the level of knowledge and learning is not equivalent really.

It was my understanding that the admission centres for each state had equivalence tables prepared each year, or even recalculated the equivalent TER etc based on scores provided by the admission centre of the student's home state.
