i have chosen a monologue and the character is a dog. im not sure if i should do it or not because it can be unrealistic in the sense that im a dog and not a person. its a great monologue but im not sure if i should stick with it?

If you develop a good enough character, why not? You can do anything you want as long as they can picture you as the dog i guess.

I've seen people do the Chesire cat before, so animals are not unheard of. I think the issue however comes with, as stated, in creating a strong enough character. It's easy to approach a human and understand that they have depth; memories, hopes, drives, passions, regrets etc. A wide range of emotions. If you feel you can convey this with a dog, go for it. Otherwise, you may need to reconsider.
