iPod Video? (1 Viewer)

This should be the next iPod version many people say.

But there has been criticism that it won't be recieved very well since people
don't want to watch crappy video on tiny screens.

I think it will depend on how cheapy ou can get video off iTunes. eg. If I could get a feature length film at DVD quality onto an iPod for a few bucks it would be more worth it than buying the DVD since you can connect your iPod to your TV and you can watch it on the go.

Also if there are exclusive shows made for iTunes it might work.

but in the end, the screen is a bit small :/

Yeah, the biggest problem is the small screen.

You wouldnt watch entire movies etc on it.

But it could be useful for small short video clips. (i.e video clips from camera phoens etc)


I think Apple will eventually do this, but its probally not the greatest priority. It would be a minor extra as a novelty, with the focus still on the music

nah, with H.264 you can cram it into a few hundred megs, which won't take that long to download.

you'll be able to fit heaps into a 60gb ipod.

To allow video would mean a possible increase in size to accomodate larger screen and battery, and viewing time would be short.

Personally I'd prefer the current slim iPod rather than a big bulky video iPod, even if it means no video function or video on the current small screen.

I would like to see the sound quality improve though.

as Templar said, theres no need for the video function, i mean i rather buy those portable dvd player with screen than watch videos off an ipod

oh yeah, didn't think of the battery life...

But regardless, if feature films could be downloaded cheaply off iTunes. it would cut massively into DVD sales as DVD's are too expensive right now.

smaller screen = smaller resoloution = smaller file size.

Id watch tv shows/movies on it when travelling on roadtrips or on train. So XVID/DIVX codec support is a must.

there was a rumour going round that the next gen ipod will have wireless headphones.. which would be so cool - but they havent got the technology right now to make it sound decent enough, maybe in the new year???
Now they've merged the iPod and iPod Photo lines, i think that will be their next step and a video playing device won't be too long off either - I think the biggest issue there would be battery life, and the H.264 codec looking good on an iPod screen,
