Yeah, so was 25% of the world at one stage. The US was a colony and they have a pernament seat. Parts of China were colonised, they have a pernament seat.
still, we're quite a young nation.
re China I presume you're talking about the invasion of manchuria by russians and HK by british - colonisation never had the same impact there as in Indochina etc. +, it was a world power before. the US rose to the forefront of the world stage in the beginning of the 20th century, because of industrialisation, winning in spanish american war, we weren't even federated.

True, but you get my general gist.

I understand what you mean, but we fought with the winning side.

Our men died and saw disgusting things, my grandfather talks about how his mates who were captured got eaten and when they marched through the villages they saw women, in X on posts, cut STRAIGHT down the middle.

We fought, we conquered, we suffered, we deserve a seat.

yes but we were not by any means, the only ones. what the Vietnamese went through in the indochina wars, what the jews went through after hitler. etc. plus, there is this little fact that our economy is smaller than that of an american state. and that's before we get started on our population. all the other nations have been (france, britain, russia), or are superpowers (china, usa). I'm all for Aus being on the SC but we just not worthy yet.

if you call what happened in the vietnam war conquered...well I think you should be getting out your dictionary.

yes, and like leetom said, don't refer to china as a colony. some people will get offended.

china suffered immensely, more so than Aus. try being a great civilisation one day and then getting stamped on by some impertinent europeans who think they're better than you simply because their eyes are shaped differently the next. plus, china is one of aus's greatest trading buddies.

In regards to the rules of the UN Security Council - No.
Is it justified - Yes.
Of course the war is not justified.
If Bush were motivated by moral concerns over human rights as he claims to be, he could not contemplate allowing Turkey, with a devastatingly vile record of human rights abuses, especially against Kurds, to be his choice to occupy and govern Iraqi Kurdistan; yet that is precisely his choice.
There are evil regimes and Iraq's is one of hundreds, most of which have been installed and supported by the US for decades.
Let's not forget that in the 1980s we and the US were all in favour of Sadam Hussein - when we were at odds with Iran.
I am reminded of Orwell's 1984 when I contemplate the way our rulers in the allegedly democratic west change the target of our national hate to whoever has dared oppose them at the moment, and our media conveniently forget that we have been their friends, financiers and weapons suppliers in the recent past.
For the UK and US and Australia to set themselves up as international judges of moral right is laughable.

No, seriously, Ziff could be the next real threat to our way of life. Or Xayma. Or Ragerunner. Why? Because they all take Chemistry and it only takes a fairly basic setup to be able to produce Weapons of Mass Destruction. Most science labs could easily do it.
Are you serious?? You're actually referring to members on this board? You're sick man. Sick.

That wasn't an essay that was just stuff I've found out. If I find something I don't understand in a book or something, I'll Google it and you'd be surprised what you'll find (ie type "Weapons of Mass Destruction" and hit I'm Feeling Lucky ... it's funny).

The USA has justified the War in Iraq by saying "Saddam might have had chemical weapons." If so, my friends, the world is faced with a deadly new threat.

And his name?

ZIFF!

Yes, my friends, it would only take for our beloved Magniloquent Member to grow a moustache, don a beret at a jaunty angle and convert to Islam to become a new threat to world peace in the eyes of Americans.

No, seriously, Ziff could be the next real threat to our way of life. Or Xayma. Or Ragerunner. Why? Because they all take Chemistry and it only takes a fairly basic setup to be able to produce Weapons of Mass Destruction. Most science labs could easily do it. So by saying Saddam might have the capactity to develop chemical weapons, then there are thousands of people our there who might have the capacity to do it and therefore are dangerous ...
heh no way ziff has too nice an arse to be a threat to national security :p

Weapons of MASS destruction. Being able to produce any of the components, which is difficult to do at best, and extremley unsafe, since any amateur will kill themselves first. But they require a method of delivery which is well beyond our capabilities.

And you will be the first one sent to a work camp!

Gimme some metal, a mig welder and some enriched uranium. I will be the next... who's someone who came to power using nuclear weapons? No one... I'll be a trend setter!

But that is physics stuff, its because we do chemistry. We will have to settle using ricin or something.

Anyway Ziff you will need some conventional explosives anyway.
