So, where do they go from here? They can't move forward without all member states.

Signed in the Portuguese capital in December, the agreement would create the post of president, strengthen the foreign-policy chief, give more power to the democratically elected European Parliament and shrink the European Commission, the EU's executive agency.
TBH I'm glad Ireland blocked it. It's tantamount to a European Constitution a.k.a. the United States of Europe. I could probably be swayed either way, but at this time I don't much favour increased bureaucracy and big business power.

'Democratically elected' is an interesting choice of words in this case.

Great stuff. I think the EU could have been a really good idea but it is increasingly moving towards becoming a totally bloated bureaucratic monster. The amount of money pissed away on agricultural subsidies, the ridiculous over-regulation and the pork would make me want to withdraw from it if I was a German or a British citizen.

I'd rather see Europe united as much as possible to be honest, so I was a bit disappointed with Ireland. Oh well.

I'm pro-World government, if such a stance exists :)

The idea of one monopolistic world government scares me, and the EU seems a step towards that.

Well I guess it depends on the government .. but what the EU is working towards is the right idea imo.
