Anyone care to let me know what they think of my assignment? I did a pretty far out there topic (video games), which I could've either gotten really bad for or really good for. I ended up getting 24/25, but i'd like some other perspectives if possible..

My focus question was - How do games developers re-construct history, and what effect does this have on historical discourse? Discuss in relation to games based on World War II.

I enjoyed reading this because it reflects my own interests (Red Alert, Command & Conquer; The Rise of Empires). But I also think it's a very good History Extension essay because the essence of its discussion is the historiography of the topic. As you discuss the topic you integrate a discussion of its historiographical issues, and it is a sophisticated discussion: this makes it a top essay for me.

I have often wondered how in recent history/current affairs ("When is History?" - see Barbara Tuchman in the Source book :)) Red Alert has inluenced young men and the military in providing them with a certain mindset/rationale for the Iraq & Afghanistan invasions.

I think the essay deserves its good mark. Thanks for the read Acid.

I should have said in my last post that I thought your synopsis & source analyses were spot on in doing their jobs properly too. The essay is competently written too in a good prose style, very readable, with sophisticated (but not "show-off") vocabulary. In fact, how the #$!*&^#@! did you lose that mark?

Thanks for that Caractus, glad you liked it. :)

Reason I lost the mark was because he said I didn't have total control over the post-modernist stance I adopted (we haven't done it in class yet). Oh well.

like 2 know who DOES have 'total control' over the post-modernist stance - if u read various post-modernists they all slightly contradict each other neway, so how can yr12 students be expected to have a total grip on their theories when they can't do it themselves. seems harsh to me, not worth taing a mark off such an excellent essay - but then again, maybe ur teacher is one of those ppl who dont like giving full marks 2 nething coz something could always be done slightly beta (just for the record, i HATE those ppl!)
anyway, i seriously luved ur essay dude, it was such an original project topic, how did u come up with it? i agree totally with caracatus, ur ability 2 integrate various issues in historiography is commendable - u must have out a lot of research into this project.

Thanks for taking the time to read it guys. I wanted to think of something original, and since I play games every now and then the idea just sorta popped into my head. I actually didn't do as much research as I probably should have - started it like 2 weeks before due date.
