I know it might seem a bit outrageous for me to be aiming for that sort of benchmark, but with the uni I want to get into, i need atleast a 90-95 atar. I'm just curious on whether im cooked or if its recoverable... (I fell off hard for task 2)

LMAOOOO its basically a social media app for students, u can host events, make groups and message each other. Lowkey free marks bc the practical was given to us(just had to copy code from eForge) and then I made a hefty portfolio abt it.
DAMN! right, ok...

i assume you've done your task 2? for mine i had to create the documentation stuff for the "major project", a PWA due in like week 8

oh yeh i legit just handed it in yesterday, we made a PWA for a tasks list. we're starting our "major project" now where u need to solve an issue or smth, but the only software teacher in our school is taking the ENTIRE term off for his child... so we have a teacher from SoN to help now

It's honestly really hard to make a prediction if you don't tell us your rank and the number of band 6s typically achieved by your school for each subject. Marks aren't really comparable across different schools

However, since you seem to have done very well in Task 1, your best bet would probably be to figure out what caused your marks to drop in Task 2. 90 is usually a completely realistic ATAR to aim for, though. You can achieve 90+ with no band 6s

true that, while i dont have my exact rank, i have a general idea, and theres not a lot of band 6s achieved in my school tbh...

math adv:6/26ish
eng adv: 5/22
sor2: 17ish?/28
software: 2/11
economics: 2/8

in terms of the amt of b6s, i could only find my 2023 annual report and it was 34 b6s.

Those are pretty good ranks! If you're able to push up to rank 1 in software and eco that would maximise your chances of getting a band 6 because your peers won't hold you back. SORII seems to be your weakest so you should try to climb up the ranks a bit, while it looks like you're tracking for high band 5s in maths and eng (these could become band 6s if you improve your rank). From the weightings, you've only locked in around half of your school assessment marks so far, so there's still plenty of room for you to get right up there :) Good luck

thank you!! so if im interpreting this right, your rank determines your band or ur band is relative to the performance of ur cohort? or how does it work bc im just finding out about all this hsc marking stuff and moderation and its confusing me icl...

No worries, I don't think anyone fully understands the whole process. I'm going to give you my understanding, but someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Basically, your raw school mark doesn't count towards anything other than determining your rank relative to everyone else in your cohort for that subject. Then, when you take the HSC, the mark you get (after your raw mark is aligned - this is another complicated process that varies by subject) constitutes 50% of your HSC mark and is called the examination mark. The other 50%, your school assessment mark, depends on your school rank. For example, if you're rank 3, you'll get the 3rd highest exam mark in your cohort. If you're rank 1, you'll get the highest exam mark in your cohort, which means that you can theoretically get as high a mark as you want, no matter what everyone else in your grade gets.

ok thanks. from my understanding then, its like we take the hsc exams, and our scores are put into a pool of our grades scores and we're given them in order of our internal rank?? so if i get 3rd internally but i place 1st in the hsc exam, i still only get the 3rd highest mark in my cohort?

Yep, but you'll get your own examination mark so you'll end up with an average of the 1st and 3rd marks
