Hello all,

Just a quick question (or 3). :)
Are the marks you receive on the actual HSC results scaled? Are premier awards (above 90 in all?) worked out from that? If they are not scaled then wouldn't it be harder for, say, a 4u maths person to get the award than a 2u maths person?

Thankyou very much for your time!!!

Yes, the HSC marks are scaled (better use the "aligned"). Premier Award should be 90+ HSC marks in 10 units (with or without English)... Even when aligned it might be easier to get 90+ in say Mathematics in comparison to Ext2 Mathematics. Well, no one really cares about the Premier awards, it's the UAI which is more useful.

Scaled should be used for the calculation of Aggregate for the UAI.

Is it 100% accurate to say that those who receive the Premier's award in the PAST, 90 or more in 10 units, have gotten AT LEAST a UAI of 98.

Survivor39, in the past it was much much harder to get 90+ in a subject because the HSC aligned marks were based on the bell curve, whereas these days, heaps of people get 90+ in a subject.

Pffft Bob Carr.

He was meant to attend all our speech days and come on special occasions because he likes our school.

He even wanted to join the Ancient History class. It was all planned.

Then he didn't show up because he had 'other' things to do.

And this has happened like 5 years in a row.

The Premier's Award (a glass plaque of sorts) is given to HSC all rounders - as flyin' said, it's for those students who attain aligned HSC marks of 90+ in at least 10 units.

The Australian Students Prize ($2000) is awarded to the top 500 students in Australia. There were 156 prizes awarded in NSW last year (including olympiad students), and the requirement was 93+ in 10 or more units. In 2001 it was 92+.

So you need a band 6 for practically all your subjects for a Permier's award?

Argh, Impossible :(

If 500 students receive the prize, why is there only 156 prizes given??

what if you are only doing 8 units this year and 2 before. are they smart enough to realise that you got 90+ in 10 units or because its spread over 2 years, do they miss it?
