I have heard around that some subjects can get you a higher UAI, irrespective of the numbers and many other considerations.

e.g. In Chemistry or Physics you can a mark around 80 and your UAI for that subject is something like 95+. Compared to Visual Art where a mark of 80 would give you a UAI of about 60+.

Can someone please explain how some of this stuff works.

your talking about scaling, some subjects have better scaling because they are harder compared to other subjects e.g. 4 unit maths compared to VA, but this doesn't mean whoever does these subjects gets 95+.

select whatever subject you are good at, because at the end of the day, doesn't matter how good the scaling is if you get shit mark you will get shit uai.

so for example.. hypothetically, if all students in VA got 60 for VA but 100 for all other subjects they took, then VA's 60 will scale to 100.

Just to clarify something, scaling isn't determined by the difficulty of the course, it is determined by the strength of the students undertaking the course. "A higher scaling course means that the majority of the candidates attempting that course are more 'academically minded', i.e. they do better, and this would be reflected by their performance in their other subjects. A lower scaling course, however, means that the majority of students attempting that course are not as academically minded, and again, this would be reflected by their performance in their other subjects."
