Somebody told me that this could be tested in the hsc but I've never heard of them before

why do some people try to make physics a social study of sorts. just ignore them as been said before

Yes, it is part of the syllabus. It is Module 8, Nature of Light, Origins of the Elements. "Investigate the evidence that led to the discovery of the expansion of the Universe by Hubble". Leavitt came before Hubble. Hubble could not have made his discovery without a way to calibrate the distances to stars, which is where Hubble relied upon Cepheid variable stars.
