It smells scamish to me:

"Intel Pentium 4 Centrino 3.06 GHZ"

Pentium 4 and Centrino are two different things. It's either one or the other, isn't it? I also couldn't find any mention of that model on Sony's Australian site.

Their account may have been hijacked,

recently, i bid on a wireless print server that was a dutch auction, 10 available, starting price $50 (RRP 350), 8 ppl ended up winning - some paid the $50 immediately, (not me) but then, a few days later, the "real" seller emailed me saying his account was hacked.

if you want too buy good cheap comptuer stuff you get it from overclockers australia, its not a good idea too sell their becaues they are real big tight asses and ahrd to rip off, but use that to your advantage, ive bought over $500 worth of stuff in comp parts, to this day it works fine, ive sold some stuff there too, its also not necessarily computer stuff (i sold dvds)

Never buy anything off there cause it's all rubbish. Its only useful for selling stuff.

Yes, Centrino computers are not Pentium 4's - they are Pentium M's. The clock speed of the processor is also more like 1.5GHz, not 3.06.

The seller replied with:

"This is pentium 4 not centrino. Sorry, our typing mistake.
The unit is imported from USA and is still not available to the Australian
sony dealers hence not on their site. "

Good eyes Arvin.

Good eyes Arvin.
Thank you.

I personally have a great distrust for eBay, but it can be useful. At the very least pay by credit card; that way if things go wrong you can cancel it the order, and be liable for only the first $50 (or so – check with you’re card provider/bank).

I also would caution against getting a Pentium 4 in a laptop; if you are going to be using the machine portably the p4 processor will eat through your batteries and generate a fair amount heat, it also looks like a pretty heavy machine as well. If you do wish to use it, with portability in mind, get a laptop with a Centrino processor, or wait any get something that had Intel’s new Sonoma technology, which as I understand it is an upgrade to Centrino.

But if you are not getting it's for portability reasons (other then occasional relocations & mostly plugged into power points) then it seems like an alright machine.

I haven’t had any experience with Viao's so I can not comment on their specific platform advantages.

Eitherway, let us know what you decide.

Thanks for that Arvin. Im sure I will be getting a Centrino, from research. But like i said, this thing looked very crazy. I wont be buying a laptop for at least 6 months because i have to wait for the expansion of my house to finish, thus shifting my computer to my new brothers room leaving me with ... a spanking new laptop.

I would thus using it as a replacement for my desktop as well as lugging it off to uni most days AND playing games with it. So, I have to trade off between the higher specs and weight ... and want a LONG battery as well ...

You mentioned "Intel’s new Sonoma technology" and a wait. 6 months is a wait, no?
