Yeah, in terms of research, its the number 1 Uni in Australia and 7th in the world. Here's proof:

no med school is the best med school.

umelb kicks butt for research but if u don't want 2 get into research, it's irrelevant.

Practically every University's M.B.B.S degree works out differently, this is easily shown by the number of years taken to finish the Med Degree.

As Aussie said, there is no "best" med school, not even Harvard can be considered the best. The most important thing is for you to fully understand the needed requirements for that uni which you plan to take your Med degree at.

I think its more or less your preference of which hospital you wish to head to for clinical training rather than the uni. Not to mention, i.e. for UNSW they usually hold most of the lectures and tutorials at your assigned Hospital, not on its usual campus. Also remember this degree requires long periods every day.

Yea I guess.

But @jb_nc, I think it does matter. If I was an employer and I had to decide between two graduates solely based on education, I would certainly pick UoM due to its prestige. But thats just me :)

medicine there are no employers..

we get picked in random drafts.. lik a lottery.. because frankly.. there is very little separating the graduates..

there is lik max 10% difference in practical knowledge between the "crap" and the "top students"

Getting in to medicine at any uni makes that one the best uni for you :)

I think Musk does make a point as well.

I think the main question is, where do you want to provide your services as a Med to the public?

If it's America, then its much better to grab a MD there. If you finish a mbbs degree here in Aust, and wish to work in America, you'll need to do those tests and stuff as an addition.

quite right pointdex! Thanks for the correction.

I think ANU did even better than UNSW in terms of scientific research, but we're catching up!
