Pretty sure Russia has said that it's defending Assad against rebels and that involves defending him against ALL rebels, US-backed as well as ISIS/Al-Qaeda. So of course the West is against this, and will now engage in an information war. Expect more reports on "civilian casualties" by "Russian forces"

Russian air strikes have commenced in Syria and operations have been ongoing for the past two days, but not without controversy.

Vladimir Putin’s men have come under criticism for allegedly targeting non-Islamic State fighters as CIA trained rebel groups report they have been targeted by Russian jets.

It was claimed by the Russian defence ministry that 12 IS targets had been hit, including a command centre and two arms depots. But given bombings have been focused on non-ISIS controlled regions, the results have been questioned.

Assad and ISIS were known not to engage each other in order to weaken the FSA.

FSA is near finished. Not even near a capable fighting force anymore. Al Nusra and ISIS have taken the fight from FSA.

As long as the Russians are actually bombing the fuck out of ISIS (unlike the turks who decided to take out the kurds) I don't really have a problem.

The only people who are cooperating with terrorists is the US, for the sake of their own ambitions in the region (the ambition being Assad)... Honestly, if you think there's "moderate" rebels in the region you are either naive or just retarded... It's better backing a government in it's own right for the sake of having some form of stable government in the region (irrespective of whether you like them or not), or have another Libya...

The FSA is all but gone now, the groups that presently exist have conglomerated with either: Al'Nusra, Daesh, or Assad... Out of all three, I think the choice is pretty clear...

EDIT: forgot about the Kurds... Russia has not actually bombed the Kurds... If anything, the Kurds have been more effective than the US Coalition in the region... (The Russians are certainly showing combat effectiveness)

Putin Reportedly Sending 150,000 Troops to Syria to Wipe out ISIS

LONDON: Russian President Vladimir Putin is reportedly sending 1,50,000 soldiers to Syria to wipe out the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

According to The Daily Star, he is apparently mounting an enormous military mission to take control of the terror group's stronghold of Raqqa.

Raqqa is the self-declared capital of ISIS which is patrolled by as many as 5,000 jihadi members.

Putin is set to mobilise 150,000 reservists whom he conscripted into the military earlier this week.
