80 will definitely get you into band 4 (<--- can anyone clear this up for me? i know band 4 is the highest band.. but, does it mean you get a HSC mark of above 90?)... so that's 5 questions.. that's what the one of my maths teacher said (extremely reliable.. i'll leave you to think about that :) there is only one reliable way to know this sort of stuff)..

so how confident is everyone in getting a raw mark of 80? it just haunts me.. 'cause i can only do about 4 questions on average :( and i usually spand too much time on questions that i can't do -- and when 3 hours is up, i find questions that i can do at the back (Q 7-8)... any tips?

oooh.. and does it take a semi-genius to get 5 questions right? i've been working so hard and did almost every question in the Arnold one.. did some past trials and HSC papers.. but it's still not working :(

Yep 80 will usually get you a band E4. Always do the ones you instantly know how to do first, then after you've done those, start looking at the more difficult questions.

Please, never refer to that band as band 4, Use the E in front of it.

It sounds depressing to me without the E, especially that it's probably what i'll get for my english (standard here :()

Oh and I think you don't need that much (80) to get band E4? Last year I got 89 with very embarrassing performance...

if you want 5 questions out it should be doable by memorising formulae, the way to solve given types of equation (motion is a good example, learn the stuff = most questions are right), and being careful. Although, if you can do that, then you can try scabbing part marks from other q's :)

ahh.. how exactly do they classify bands in ext.2? mee really have no idea (I would if you ask me about chem ;)) :( just do do and do maths and... do maths again.. and again..

so is it correct to say band E4 (<--- hey i've learnt something :)) = 90+ HSC mark?

when you say raw 80...do u mean 80% or 80/120?

i sat the 4u exam last yr...repeating it again this yr....and i think a 70/120 would give u bandE4...not entirely sure though

yup... meee meant 80/120... hehee.. it shifts slightly from year to year i suppose.. but yeah.. that's what my maths teacher said (well.. he's involved with marking the HSC last year ;) should have made that clear instead of making you to guess it..) about 5 questions, that's what he said.. i thought we're not meant to know so i didn't make that point clear :) now.. what does everyone think?

So you got more than 89, why are you doing it again this year???
The difference in scaled marks wouldn't be much for another year's worth of work!

Yeah, so I guess we were those bludgers who bludged in the beginning and got shit rank, until the end where you realise that the HSC is important and got great results.. only in the HSC exam.

Oh well.. an extra year of maths periods to socialise? :D

Hang on a sec...does that mean
i) you got 97 for your aligned exam mark and an aligned HSC mark of 89
or
ii) you got 89 for your aligned exam mark and hence an aligned HSC mark of 85?
