Whats worse are the high school students,. The library should clear this up, HS students should move if a uni student wants the seat. Seeing HS kids wearing their uniform blazers or some kids camp there for a couple of hours working some HSC past exams is frustrating.
Haha fuck, I hate them with a passion, especially the guys who fucking think they're fucking king shit, just want to stab them in the knee with scissors :burn:

Hmm..that make me think about moving off from a seat on the bus for old ladies... ><
But still, there should be libraries around North Ryde area aren't there??? Why they bothered occupying a seat in uni?! Trying to feel like a uni student before the HSC??? LOL

gah, I hate youngsters trying to overstep their bounds. Just point to the sign next time, and call the supervisor over to kick their butts out, I say!

So annoying, I walked around the entire library, all of the 3 levels with study tables....I think it is stupid for people to leave their stuff for hours. I've done it in the past a couple of times (only once during exam time) and realise how selfish it is.

I've plan to be in the library from about 12-7 in the library tomorrow, and will put the policy into action. (note to self: look for group of individual tables that are all mysteriously empty. Also hello kitty, etc..)

Right now i am in the library waiting, I saw a good room near the ECFS books and currently waiting for the time to , after that, i will go over and legally hijack the room for study,

In economics it is purely rational, the resource's (room's)utility is not maximised (for study), hence there would be gains in allocative and technical efficiency if i take over the room, besides, it also works out in game theory.

Leave/Leave:0,0
leave/ stay: 0,10
stay/leave: 10,0
stay/stay: 5,5

nash equilibrium states that we will both stay, but that doesnt work in most cases

If one person becomes irrational and chooses to leave, they deserve to lose the seat

I saw someone leave their HP unattended around the SAM bar eating area - how stupid can you get. I was so tempted to lock their laptop down with my kensington security cable. Just seeing their face as they come back, their laptop safe and sound - yet non removable would be priceless hehe - but I am too scared to do such a thing (but I would love to see an adventurous person try hehe)

thank god im not doin micro analysis :p

i dont think ive ever left stuff on a table and come back after a few hours...but then again im not studious enough to visit the library often either :p
I've discovered i get way more work done in the comp labs...which is weird, coz the library is quieter and doesnt have any distractions...

LOL, i remember while my friends and I were having lunch, we saw a guy put his lap top unattended on a table then just walked away. my friends and I were making jokes whether we should take it or not, but it was such a public place... we just didn't have the guts, lol. i don't understand why somebody would even place an unattended laptop in order to reserve a seat. it's pretty stupid, lol.

I did left my bags in SAM to reserve a seat...coz I searched around da library and fine 0 seats. LOL
But what I did was ask the girl near my table to mind my stuff while I go and get myself some lunch (so I took my phone and wallet) nothing else cost more, except two textbooks that cost over 200 :p
Then I returned and she went to get stuff and asked me to mind her laptop. So it's actually not bad to STUDY in SAM. :p

Response (albeit, a late one) from the library to my email saying the policy's good, but it doesn't get enforced/noticed, to the frustration of both parties...

Dear Stephen

Thank you for your feedback; I am replying on behalf of the University Librarian. Providing adequate study space for students is an ongoing challenge for the Library, and the enforcement of this policy aims to discourage the use of the Library by students as a 'holding place' for their materials. However I have received several comments in a similar vein to yours, relating to the signs and awareness of the policy. We are now planning to place more prominent signs around the study areas, and to place flyers on study desks to alert students to the policy. We also have a security officer in the Library during the month before exams and he has the role of placing handouts on desks as well as working with students to resolve any issues which may arise in enforcing the policy.

Over the semester break we will be reviewing the outcomes of enforcing this policy and will develop a broader communication strategy as a result. I will pass your comments on to the relevant staff so that they can be considered as part of this review.

Regards

Jennifer

Maybe you can ask them to place a sign near the entrance of the library, it will ensure maximum exposure...

There is that big Hitachi plasma display up above the entrance of the library - maybe they could use that - flashy colours so people don't ignore it.

Leave things on desks and we'll give you an epileptic fit! RAAAWWRR!!!

or not... -_-;
