Hi all,

I've found that the questions in Jacaranda Physics are simply 'spastic'. I thought it'd get better for the HSC course edition, but it seems the same.

By 'spastic', I mean they seem so annoying and meaningless to do. I much prefer doing Macmillan textbook's questions, and they seem to actually help and give an understanding of the module.

Anyone else agree?

the only questions i ever did was answer the dot points (even though they are statements) and past papers..

i agree the textbook questions are not optimal for hsc exam or trial exam prep. so just do past papers.

Yeah you see, the thing is that my teacher doesn't have a clue about Physics, and he will probably make us do them for homework (at least for Prelim he did).

I wish I could switch to the other class, who has a better teacher.... (I had him for Year 10, and he was really good for teaching the Physics parts, and that helped me for the basis of Year 11 Physics).

But the Jacaranda textbook? What's the assessment of its quality in terms of content of information?

Maybe for the actual theory it is comphrensive, but as I said it's got really annoying questions that seem meaningless and stupid.

It probably is one of the better books out there.

Ultimately there really is no ultimate text your teacher should have enough variety to help you understand the best possible way for that concept.

Jacaranda after i wrote to them have some incorrect statements about Bragg's x-ray crystallography experiment.

In it they suggest that Bragg used photographic film to detect the angle of deflection form the emitted x-rays.

This is in fact wrong as he used an ionisation chamber to detect the angle of x-ray deflection.

Funny thing is that both the book and the CSSA catholic paper in 2006 got it wrong look at Q 15 multiple choice.

When you write to these examiners you realise that they use incorrect text to write exam questions...

Shame on them really and I believe also Charles Sturt online HSC has it wrong too...

Regards,

C

Spotlight Physics is also good. I use both Spotlight and Jacaranda.
