I think this is fucked, Howard chasing his free-trade agreement with Japan and letting them get away with murder in the mean time to suck some asian cock.
Fuck them, Impound the ship and make their country come and pick them up. If we let them re-fuel, fix their crew members and then let them go straight back out and slaughter whales in our sanctuary, then what the fuck is this world coming to. I get so fucked off at this sort of thing, why does everything in asia have to be a god damn delicasy if it's rare? (or are they maybe just forcing all their cultural foods to extinction? retarted.)

There's not much a responsible government can do to stop it unfortunately. They exploit the "scientific purposes" loophole.

With the amount of whales that they take, the experiments must be something like "testing how fast a group of people can eat a Whale".

yeah i haven't eaten it either... but , the main point i was getting at is that kangaroos are in plague proportions and their population is continually rising, as we give them better environments...(grazing areas).. whereas, whales are continuouly decreasing because of humans, directly and indirectly. how do we expect them to last.

does anybody know how the Japanese are justifying their scientific research? like are they actually trying to determine anything or is there any real reason why they are "reasearching" them? Or do they not have to justify their culling if they claim scientific research?

actually this is a good point.. what are the reasons put forth does anyone really know? beacuse they can say anything "we're researching birth rates/death rates/intelligance rates/sex rates/virus rates..... man the list goes on maybe thats how they've been able to stay killing whales so long?

all of them barring virus' are viewable methods.. they are killing them. I would like to know why.. medical advancement, stomach contents, genetic makeup (probly wouldnt need to kill), mabye.
but like, fuck they could get that info with a couple of them, not thousands per year and rising.

I think you guys may be missing the point. They know we disagree with it. We know they know we disagree with it. We all know.

They do not seek to correctly justify their practices, but rather (in a typical Japanese style) halt any action with a legally-valid yet socially-invalid excuse. I think it's a big thing for Japanese people to placate people with a half-baked excuse -- you can say 'that's not a very good answer!', and they just say 'well, that's all we can do ^^.'

yeah.. i see that, but i was under the impression that the law would require any person to justify their catalyst (in this case "scientific research", as we all know..) to hunt endangered animals of any kind.
But in this case it may appear they don't need to (or have not yet) put forth any legally valid justification or evidence of any advancement or improvement to anything. Or any to my knowledge. (which is why i asked earlier..)
Which IMO isn't good enough. Regardless of my prejudice..

I'm going to Japan for a holiday in a week's time. If anyone offers me whale meat, I'm absolutely going to give them crap for it. Hey, danieljarvis, what T-shirt did you buy, and where did u get it? They have a save the whales shirt! yeah i've got some friends who are into designs n clothing, im getting them to make me some rad hippie shirts.. definately the next thing in fashion.
