I would join the Young Liberals, however, they are filled with fucking Christians. I guess I'll just wait till I can join the REAL Liberal Party.

meh join a political party and all you do is tow the party line.
Not necessarily. If I didn't like something my party did I would stand against it or leave.

It Should be spelt Labour. We use Australian (British) English in this country, not American English.

I see no reason why students cannot be independents. At the University of Sydney, there's an entire party of independents - it's called the Diversity Party. Maybe some of you might be interested in joining this party, as we have people of many different beliefs working towards a common goal of representation for all.

Both the Young Labor and Young Liberal parties have very nice people, but I don't know if people at this age should tie themselves to party doctrine. If you join Young Labor, or Young Liberals, you're not allowed to disagree with the Party. Are you really willing to throw away all your personal beliefs for the Party?

I don't think anyone should join either of the 'young' parties, no matter how much you believe in the party now...
I used to love labor, however once i started reading, comparing their policies for myself i decided i prefer liberal, it is possible however less likely now that i could change back to labor... I think it's best to wait untill you are of age to join the proper party, hopefully by then you'll understand exactly where you stand.

I also disagree that you have to follow the party doctrine, there are the more left liberals, the more right liberals, the more left labor, the more right labor.... to me it comes down to which party i believe BEST stands for my beliefs, not the one which has the exact same beliefs as me...

But even within the factions, you still have to toe the party line. Example, Labor Left - their official motto is "Socialism, Feminism, Unionism & Democracy". I am most definitely not a feminist.

Nevertheless, it is the right of people to have their own opinions on matters. I value my opinions too much to push a party line which I disagree with.
