its so hard to get in now~ but you can always do arts or something... and also there are private colleges...
macleay college has a bachelor of arts and diploma in journalism that you do in association with Southern Cross uni but on macleay premises in sydney.....

none of your fricken business, i know where you li
yeah i know, its damn fookin hard to get into journo, the UAI is like 97.00 and it might even go up this yr.

Alt. ways to get into b arts in media communication (journo) at UTS

you can do anotehr B arts in media communication (pub comm/info/writing or something) and then ask for a transfer if you work hard all yr at UTS. but you also got to get yourself published and stuff do extra work and prove you're worth taking in. then you write a letter and fill in some forms saying why you want to get in and what you've done so far - what you've gotten published, your work experience. but they also look at your mark and see how far off you needed to get in. but that's always one of the ways. if you don't get in make sure you are doing a degree you enjoy!!!

plus you don't always have to do a journo degree to become a journo, some people do a different degree/discipline and start specialising writing for it. some people do arts/sci and start freelancing writing and combine the two degrees and do sci reporting or something.

marks are not the end all!

just a note for anyone wanting to do journo. i reccomend doing amore general degree such as communications becsause then you can branch out, incluiding journolism where as journolism is only journo. you will also get better expericne - higher percentage rate of emplyment (this is coming from a knowledge of an employer)

there is no uai for csu ba communications... you have to fill in questionares (essays) and they also take into account your uai. if you've been really active in school activities then you've got a better chance. i unfortunately haven't. we had a girl at my school who got 89 and didn't get in last year...

ok i went to CSU and had a look at the bathurst campus and it is the best uni..................i REAAAAALLLLLLY want to go now!!!!!!!
there no set uai but the lady basically said u need around 80 to be considered.
You have to fill out a questionnare and complete 2 essays and mail it to them in early december. they send u the info sheetif u put it on your uac preferences.
Last years essays were:
" Tell us about yourself and why you are interested in a career in the communications sector?"
&
"New communications structures in the knowledge economy are both globalising and fragmenting our world. Discuss from the perspective of of your specific area of career interest."

The essays only have to be about 400 - 500 words.

i think thats everything. ciao :)

Yeah, like all of you guys I want to get into PR/media stuff...I'm thinking I want to go to CSU at the moment, but I'm also contemplating Macquarie

I know somebody at CSU studying journalism and she highlighly recommends it. She also says living on campus is the best, cos there's ALWAYS a party and always someone to talk to...

sounds good to me! Sydney seems like a really fake uni, like they're so obsessed with tradition...it sounds like my high school...and I'm dying to get out of there!

If anyone else has any other good suggestions for PR courses (pref not ones with UAI's as high as UTS or Sydney) then let me know!

Hmm I'm a little confused about this..

If i do communications, then major in journalism - then is it different to doing just journalism? Can someone fill me in on this?

I've also considered going into the field of journalism, and being a cynic.

a cynic? don't u mean a critic??

i'm honestly not sure on the differences..... i think straight out journalism is a little more involved and difficult as well as harder to get into...
