It says in the handbook that I can complete a maximum of 48 junior credit points, which I have completed all 48. But there is a second year course I want to take that requires a junior course that I haven't taken yet. Is there any way I can take this course? My plan was to overload first semester to take this junior unit so I would still be completing 24 intermediate credit points in first semester, but I don't know if I can do this?

I'm pretty sure you should be able to do this thru special permission especially if you want to take that 2nd year course

Like pokka said, across all degrees if you are to overload more than the degree requirements/restrictions you will need the faculty's permission to overload credit points or to study a unit without the prerequisites having been met (though I heard it was rare this option).
